Several years ago, Carole Perry left behind a successful 20-year career as an executive to pursue her passion for glass full-time. Her work achieved rapid acceptance, and within months she had received commissions from both corporate and private collectors. "I was grateful for the swift validation. However, my obsession with glass is so strong, I would do whatever was necessary to continue this passion."
Born in southern Oregon, Carole now works out of her studio in Cave Creek, Arizona. She is best known for her tapestry series. Each of these pieces begins with more than 5000 glass threads, cut and "woven" on the kiln shelf. The piece is then heated to about 1500 degrees. When the piece has struck, it is briefly removed from the kiln and hand manipulated into its final shape-within a window of less than 25 seconds. This molding process makes each work not only unique but highly personal. Carol says the tapestries represent a life-long rebellion against the "don"t touch the glass" rules of childhood. "The common perception that glass is cold and fragile is reinforced by that frequent admonition. I have a mission to teach the warm and soothing properties of glass."
